Wild Flowers

Katherine and I went up to Eagle Point Park this evening to walk around a little. I brought my camera and took some photos of these flowers. There are random patches of these exact flowers all over the town of Dubuque. I guess they are pretty native here.

The Windy City

My parents flew into Chicago for the 4th of July weekend. The 4 of us (Katherine, my parents, and myself) went around the city for two days doing various tourist activities. This image is taken at the bean - also known as the cloud gate - in Millennium Park. The center of the bean goes inward, which gives a really cool reflection of the surrounding area.

Chicago on the 4th

We went down to the Willis Tower to get up on the sky deck. It wasn't a super clear day, but you could still see pretty far.

Scenic Overlook off Highway 20

On our way back from Chicago, Katherine and I stopped at a scenic overlook. I have passed it several times, but I've never stopped until now.

Galena On a Friday Evening

Katherine and I went down to Galena, Illinois to go downtown on a Friday evening, thinking it would be a busy place - except that it was not. Galena is a shopping and tourist town, and has several blocks of really cool unique and weird stores, but all of them were closed. Disappointed, we decided to go across the bridge into Grant Park.

Are we Iowans Yet?

Knowing that the weather wouldn't be the best over the weekend, Katherine and I went to the National Farm and Toy Museum in Dyersville, Iowa. It was a pretty big place (considering what it is).

Field of Dreams

Katherine and I went to the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa. It's about 30 minutes from our apartment, and we figured it would be a nice short trip away from Dubuque. I have never seen the movie, but it was just a baseball field next to a house in the middle of a corn field.

Mines of Spain

There is this park in Dubuque that doesn't look like Dubuque at all. It's called the Mines of Spain. Originally inhabited by an Indian tribe many years ago, it's now a state park with over 20 miles of hiking.

Heidi and Sean's Wedding

Heidi and Sean got married at the Wild Basin Lodge in Allenspark, Colorado. We got there a little early, so I thought I would take a few photos and put my camera in the car.

Mile High Nationals at Bandimere

Katherine, her parents, her brother, and I all went down to the Mile High Nationals at the Bandimere speedway. I've never been to anything like this before, so it was pretty exciting.

Dubuque County Fair at Night

Katherine and I went to the Dubuque county fair over the weekend. We went on two different days. On the first trip, we just walked around the carnival area. None of the exhibits were open (because we got there in the evening). There were a lot of things that were different at this county fair than the only other county fair I've been to before (in Colorado). But no matter where you are, every county fair is guaranteed to have a Ferris Wheel and some fried street food.
