The Cats of Cyprus
For the last segment of our trip we were in Cyprus. The vacation changed from exploring new areas of Europe more to hanging out with family at this point in the trip. This was still a new place for us to explore, but most of the days were hanging with family instead of being tourists. Because of this, I didn't take many photos, other than a few of the city from on top of Shacolas Tower in Nicosia, a few from our hotel in Ayia Napa overlooking the beach, and a bunch of Katie petting the Cyprian cats.
There were cats everywhere in Cyprus. Katie really enjoyed the cats of Cyprus and tried to pet every single one that she saw. I don't know how many we saw, but in our couple of days in the city of Nicosia, we probably saw at least a couple dozen cats. Katie was successful in petting a handful of them, and one even jumped up in her lap during lunch. Even though this album is dated June 5th, the photos of Katie with the cats were taken throughout the time we were in Cyprus from June 2nd through when we left on June 6th.
Notched Ear
Many of the cats in Nicosia had notches in their ears. Katie speculated that maybe that meant they had been spayed as an obvious mark so that someone doesn't try and spay an already spayed cat. This was one of the first cats that warmed up to Katie and it was fitting that it looks very similar to Katie's favorite cat back home.
Back Scratches
This cat was more interested in pets than Katie's ice cream.
Different Cat
Many of the cats looked the same as the last cat that we saw, like this one and the one before it. It could have been the same cat, but we don't know.
Afraid
This one was curious of Katie but never came up to her for her to pet it.
Sunbathing on the Roof
We came back to our Airbnb to find a cat sunbathing on the roof of the building across the street., This made Katie particularly happy.
Face Scratches
Not all the cats we came across were this comfortable around humans. We were in a pretty busy area of Nicosia, so any cat we saw would have been used to humans to some extent, but not all of them were calm enough to let Katie pet them.
Under the Bench
This cat was found on the Turkey side of Nicosia. Katie got to pet cats of many different nationalities.
Lunchtime Kitty
This is Mitey, the name that Katie gave the feral cat, named after the ear mites in it's ear.
