Wildflowers at Coyote Ridge
A few weeks ago I biked along Coyote Ridge to the Prarie Ridge Trail and noticed an abundance of wildflowers. Sure there are wildflowers everywhere in Colorado, but I wasn't expecting the number of wildflowers and the variety so close to the foothills. So I knew that I had to come back to this spot at some point to take some photos. Even though it took several weeks before Katie and I had a chance to go out to take photos of the wildflowers, they did not disappoint. Just in the few weeks between when I first noticed them and when we got out, they had already changed so much.
Wew actually attempted to go out shooting twice, two days in a row. The first evening we got there way too late and by the time we had hiked to the large patch of flowers, it was already too dark to take good photos. The next evening we went a little bit earlier, however, it was overcast so we still didn't get great lighting (although much better than the night before), and it was really windy which made shooting in low light that much more difficult.
The last thing about this hike worth mentioning were the rattlesnakes. This was prime rattlesnake territory, and taking photos of wildflowers requires you to go a little bit off the trail. We didn't venture too far, but we were definitely cautious and luckily never ran into any wildlife.

Setting Sun
We were about half way to our photo destination when the sun started to set and we started loosing sunlight. Our poor timing made this day a waste for photography, but was still a nice walk.

Perched
I was surprised that I got a decent enough photo of this bird. The lighting was horrible and I was zoomed in all the way with my lens to try and get a shot of this bird.

Copper Mallows
There weren't a lot of these Copper Mallow flowers during the hike, but there were a few small patches of the.

Canadian Thistle
There were quite a bit of weeds growing in the Coyote Ridge area, including these Canadian Thistles. But even weeds have a pretty side to them.

Fog Fruit
These little Fog Fruit Flowers were filled with a lot of color. The were really low to the ground so they weren't affected by the wind.

Dual Flowers
I had to cheat with this photo. Because the wind was so string and because these flowers were up high, I ended up holding the stems of both of them. The white flower is a Mariposa Lily, and the blue flowers are Geyer Larkspur's.

Concentration Face
Katie's concentration face includes her tongue sticking out. Rather cute and makes for a great un-candid photo.

Reviewing the Shot
Katie still didn't realize that I was taking photos of her, so I kept shooting, waiting for the perfect shot.

Happy Photographer
Finally Katie looked up at me and realized I was taking photos of her.

In the Flowers
We also took a few candid shots. For this one, I was in the middle of the field, which I had to slowly wander into in order to make sure there were no rattlesnakes.
