Morning in Barcelona & an Evening in Madrid
Today was a travel day. We had train tickets in the afternoon to go to Madrid, but before we left, we headed down to a large park close to our hotel. We started at the Arc de Triunfo and walked along the park until we had to go to the train station. Once we got to Madrid, we checked into our hotel and started wandering the city, looking for some food. We had some dinner at a burger bar (totally authentic Spanish food), and then headed to another park where we wandered around a bit.
Protecting the Arch
We made it over to the Arc de Triomf in Barcelona which was a very Gothic structure. There were several gargoyles as well as the all brick construction was a giveaway.
Entry to the World Fair
The Arc de Triomf in Barcelona was the main access gate for the 1888 Barcelona World Fair.
Brickwork
The Gothic constructions sure did like using bricks.
Along the Park
The Arc de Triomf was in a long narrow park that lead to a much bigger park behind me in the photo.

Monk Parakeet
We saw these pretty green birds, which looked like the loris and lorikeets we see at our local zoo, but in the wild. After some Googling, I found out they are Monk Parakeets.
Chipped Beak
This Monk Parakeet had a very badly chipped beak.

We stumbled upon this weird sculpture that we were unsure of what it was.
Herringbone Gear
I'm not really sure what this structure is or what it is for.
Arc de Triomf Again
We walked back down to the Arc de Triomf because it wasn't that long of a walk. Now that the sun had risen, it was a much better photo.
Gambrinus Lobster Statue
We walked along the shore and found a weird lobster statue.
Columbus
I didn't get a very good photo of this on the first day that we arrived to Barcelona, but we walked past it again on our way back to the hotel to check out and Columbus's face was in the sun so I snapped a few photos.
Madrid Train Station
We made it to Madrid in the late afternoon and started to walk around the town looking for something to eat for dinner.
Fountain of the Fallen Angel
After we found something to eat, we went to the park. The first thing we saw was the Fountain of the Fallen Angel.
Spooked?
Don;t these statues just look spooked?
Bright Red
I'm not sure what these flowers are, but they were the most vibrant red I've ever see on a flower.
Palacio de Cristal
We found the glass house, or Palacio de Cristal as it's known to the locals. We went inside to take a look around.
