BallooningPosted: September 04, 2016Katherine and I got to go in a hot air balloon ride as part of a bridal shower gift from Katherine's parents and grandparents. We launched at Chatfield Reservoir, located about 20 miles southwest of the center of Denver. Setting UpThe first step is setting up. They unpacked the balloon from a giant bag, attached it to the basket, and then used a big portable fan to fill it with air. Once the balloon was filled with air they turned on the burners and let the heat stand the balloon up.On Its SideGreat Day For FlyingIt was a little chilly in the morning (we took off around 7:30), but the burners above us kept us warm. There was hardly a breeze at all and the sky was completely clear except for these few clouds.Front RangeThis was one of the first photos I took up in the air. Straight DownThis was the view straight down. That truck is the vehicle the balloon came in, and those people were our support team - Katherine's parents and grandparents. Landing In the RoadIt looked like this balloon was following the street and from up here it looks like it landed right in the road!Slow to LaunchThere were 4 balloons that launched that morning including ours. We all launched from the same place. We happened to fly over the top of one of them. This is not a shot I get to take on most daysOver the TreesUneven HorizonI'm not sure why a lot of the trees near the shore are dying in this photo, but that's what caught my eye to take this photo.Balloon FriendsEarly Morning ShadowDenverI really like this photo because you can see Denver in the background. This is also one way that you can descend while in the air.
