Acorn Creek Trail
To see some fall colors, we headed up I-70 to Sliverthorn for our hike. Katie worked on Saturday, which was the nicer day, but with a storm overnight, the trees were snow-covered on our way up, which excited us. As soon as we went through the Eisenhower Tunnel at Loveland Pass, that snow was gone and it was normal conditions. It was too bad we didn't plan to do something before Loveland Pass, and it's too bad we didn't stop in the morning to take a few photos. But it was early and we thought that the conditions would be the same on the other side of the pass.
We got to the trailhead around 10 am and started our hike which was supposed to be a 5-and-a-half mile hike with a small amount of elevation gain. But we missed the turnoff and headed straight up the mountainside making the hike much more challenging. We didn't make it to the end of the trai, but instead, we ate lunch after we hit 2 and a half miles into the hike before turning around. The views likely would have been a little better if we summited, but it was an extra mile (one way) and an extra 1,000 feet in elevation gain which would have been killer.
This area was nearly peak colors, but there was still a lot of green on the mountainsides. I think another week will be perfect here, but who knows what area we'll end up in next week!

Bright Orange
There were many different colors of aspens in the area. I found this bright orange leaf on the ground early in our hike.

Mornign Dew
It precipitated in this area the previous night which left droplets of water on the fallen leaves.

Foggy
The morning had low clouds blocking the views of the aspen-filled mountains.

Ptarmigan Peak Wilderness
We haven't hiked in this are before, so it was fun to explore a new place!

Through the Meadow
We passed through several meadows that had great open views. It was nice to hike through some aspens as well as getting to see the whole area.

Looking Back
Although there were low clouds in the distance to the West, you could still see that there were tall peaks in that direction.
