Sow and Cub

With her powerful shoulders and for-inch front claws, this mother grizzly is not to be challenged. The bear's name comes from its grizzled, siilver-tipped coat. In the early 1800's the time of Lewis and Clark, as many as 100,000 of these fearsome bears roamed the western wilderness. Now, in the lower 48 states, only 1500 grizzlies survive. After an absence of sixty years, grizzly bears are now being reported in Colorado.
