Jan Breydel and Pieter de Coninck

This is a statue of Jan Breydel and Pieter de Coninck which depicts the country of Flander's independence from the French in 1302. Breydel was the leader to the Matins of Bruges in 1302 which was a massacre of the local French militia. This revolt led to the Battle of the Golden Spurs in which Coninck had a large role in. The Battle of the Golden Spurs was fought between the French and the country of Flanders for their independence from the French.
