Italy Day 5: Pisa

On our 5th day in Italy, Katherine and I went to the Leaning Tower of Pisa. We started the day early, with a 8am train to Pisa. We had pre-ordered tickets to go up in the Leaning Tower of Pisa, but we didn't have a time slot yet. We figured we would get there early and get an early time slot. Turns out the company we bought the tickets from wouldn't hand tickets out until 4:30 - well after we were planning on leaving. Knowing we wouldn't make that, we purchased tickets on the spot from the Leaning Tower of Pisa ticket office without any problems. The tickets were significantly less expensive than what we bought online too. After we got home from the trip I was able to get our money back because the company didn't make it very clear that you couldn't pick up the tickets during normal business hours. After spending all morning and part of the afternoon in Pisa, we took a train back to Florence and relaxed. We went back out after dinner to take photos of the sunset from the river.

Ready to Go Up

Katherine and I got on the earliest train from Florence to go to Pisa. We got there a little before 9 and immediately went to go get our tickets. We had some reserved online but the company (not to be named) wouldn't hand them out until 4pm! We were mad and frustrated but since we were there pretty early we were able to get some new tickets from the Leaning Tower of Pisa. We complained to that company after the fact and were able to get a refund luckily.

At the Top

Katherine and I raced to the top because we read several placed online that you only got 15 minutes at the top and then they would make you go down. It wasn't very busy (despite it being 10am), and we got to stay up there as long as we wanted. If we would have know that we had as much time as we wanted, we wouldn't have ran up the stairs!

Mountains

Several Bells

There were a lot of bells up in the Leaning Tower of Pisa. That shouldn't be surprising since it is a bell tower.

I thought it was really interesting that the bells in the Leaning Tower of Pisa were mounted at what looked like an angle. They were really actually mounted level to the ground.

Under Construction

It was too bad that the Pisa Cathedral was under construction, but we couldn't have asked for a more clear and beautiful day.

Up the Stairs

This picture was actually taken on the way down to Leaning Tower of Pisa, but we were too concerned with time at the top of the tower that we ran up the stairs. On our way down we stopped to take a few photos.

Wooden Doors

The entrance into the Leaning Tower of Pisa were giant wooden and old doors.

Slanted

While I was editing photos I came across this one and started out doing my normal routine of making sure the photo was straight. I grabbed my ruler tool, ran it up the side of the building, and then realized now Katie was tilted awkwardly. Then I remembered that this is the Leaning Tower of Pisa and it is supposed to be crooked! I almost edited out what makes this building famous!

Pisa Cathedral

After we made it down from the Leaning Tower of Pisa we ran over to the cathedral. our ticket to the Leaning Tower of Pisa also let us into the Cathedral, but the cathedral had to close early for a concert later in the day.

Golden

The ceilings inside the Cathedral of Pisa were beautiful!

This is a Pulpit (pulpit of Giovanni Pisano) inside the Cathedral of Pisa. A pulpit is a platform where the preacher delivers their sermon.

It was a really sunny day at the Leaning Tower of Pisa. We couldn't have asked for a nicer day!

This shot was inspired by Katie. She said that it was a famous photo and told me I had to take one the same way. Turned out to be a pretty good photo.

Angel Statue
