Mile High Nationals at BandimerePosted: July 25, 2015Katherine, her parents, her brother, and I all went down to the Mile High Nationals at the Bandimere speedway. I've never been to anything like this before, so it was pretty exciting. Popping a WheelieKatherine, her parents, her brother, and I all went down to the Mile High Nationals at the Bandimere speedway. I've never been to anything like this before, so it was pretty exciting. Fat TiresIt was pretty cool because they let us walk around the entire place (seemed safe?), we couldn't get on the actual track, but we could get 3 or 4 cars back from the staging area and walk around. Bright Blue and Thin TiresThis is the front end of a jet dragster. On the Race TrackGood BurnoutI learned a little bit going to this event. Every car would do a burnout just before heading to the start line. They do this to get the tires sticky so that when they are actually at the race start they have enough traction to not burn out and loose all their acceleration.Warping TiresYou can tell a little bit in this image, but when they do a burnout, the tires spin so fast that they actually warp. You could see this on some of the burnouts with your eyes, but I tried to capture some of them. Crowded EventWe got up and walked around a few times. We got there around noon and we were there into the evening. Every time we walked around there were more and more people there. Kids CompetitionThese are some of the dragsters from the kids competition. I say kids, but I think the age cutoff is middle or high school. Some of these dragsters went over 100 miles per hour! Those parents must have a lot of trust in their kids to let them drive something like that!Monster CarFake Headlights and GrillA lot of the pro stock cars had fake headlights and fake grills, some of them even had fake media consoles and air condition vents on the inside of the car too! That just seems overkill. I also like this car because there is a ram on the front of it. Lots of Bumper StickersTop Fuel DragsterThese top fuel dragsters would literally make your eyes vibrate in your head because of how loud they were. They had speeds of 300+ miles per hour and can rip down a 1,000 feet (roughly 1/5th of a mile) track in less than 4 seconds. Luckily we all had ear plugs, but that was a very unique feeling of having sound waves hit me that hard. Fire Spitting MachinesThe top fuel dragsters would accelerate so fast that fire would shoot out the backs of them. It was pretty intense.Funny CarsThese are very similar to the top fuel dragsters (in speed and loudness), but they have the engine in the front, and have a fiberglass or carbon fiber body to make them resemble a normal manufactures' showroom car. Don't bee fooled though, they have incredible acceleration and speed. Funny Car Burnout
